What is NeuroStar?

prTMS Therapy Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, non-drug approach indicated for treating Major Depressive Disorder in patients who have failed to improve from prior antidepressant medication in the current episode.

How does it work?

prTMS Therapy uses precisely directed magnetic pulses to help activate the natural function of the brain’s neurotransmitters using a noninvasive magnetic field similar to that of an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). This is not the same as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).

TMS is an in-office treatment that requires no anesthesia or sedation. You are awake and alert during treatment and can resume normal activities immediately afterwards.

Most treatments are under 19 minutes, and therapy is 5 days a week for 6 weeks. *

* May vary depending on your doctor’s recommendation.

Is it safe?

TMS is safe, easy to tolerate and free from side effects often associated with antidepressants.

TMS treatment has no systemic side effects or adverse effects on cognition or sleep. The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site.

prTMS Therapy has been available in the US for 11 years and over 2.3 million treatments have been performed.

Does it work?

Clinical data show that more than two thirds (67.7%) of people with major depression respond to treatment while nearly half (45.1%) achieve complete remission. Studies also show results are maintained for at least 1 year after initial treatment. At Beautiful Minds results may be even better due to our whole-person care approach which incorporates lifestyle principles such as nutrition, exercise, water, sleep and more as part of our treatment plans.

Am I a candidate?

TMS is indicated for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder in adult patients who have failed to receive satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant medication in the current episode.

prTMS Therapy is available by prescription only.

Adult Indications for Use
Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) is indicated for the treatment of depressive episodes and for decreasing anxiety symptoms for those who may exhibit comorbid anxiety symptoms in adult patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and who failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from previous antidepressant medication treatment in the current episode.

Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) is intended to be used as an adjunct for the treatment of adult patients suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Adolescent Indications for Use
Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) is indicated as an adjunct for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adolescent patients (15-21).

Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) is only available by prescription. A doctor can help decide if Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) is right for you. Patients’ results may vary.

Important Safety Information
The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site. These events are transient; they occur during the TMS treatment course and do not occur for most patients after the first week of treatment. There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (<0.1% per patient).

Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) should not be used with patients who have non-removable conductive metal in or near the head. Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) has not been studied in patients who have not received prior antidepressant treatment.
