PrTMS® Therapy in Rocklin

When you experience the symptoms of major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), or anxious depression, you may find it difficult to know how to get help. If you have seen a medical professional—such as a psychiatrist—you may have already tried medications or explored traditional psychotherapy techniques to learn more about yourself, your symptoms, and how you want to approach your mental health. However, these treatments do not always provide the relief you seek.

If you are looking for an alternative treatment option, PrTMS® therapy in Rocklin may be the answer. This non-invasive procedure could provide you with relief from the symptoms of OCD and MDD. Personalized repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (PrTMS®) helps you get back to leading the life you want to live. When used in conjunction with psychotherapy techniques, you can achieve your mental health goals safely and efficiently with the help of the Beautiful Minds Medical team.

How Does PrTMS® Therapy Work?

MDD is also known as treatment-resistant depression, meaning that traditional psychiatric medications do not provide sufficient relief and often result in common unwanted side effects. PrTMS® therapy, instead, uses electromagnetic pulses to target specific regions in your brain that may be underperforming, usually those that regulate emotions.

If you experience the symptoms of OCD, the underperforming regions are generally those used in decision-making and behavior control. PrTMS® can encourage activity in these regions, often helping to rejuvenate your neural network so it can better regulate itself. PrTMS® treatment in Rocklin may be an ideal solution to your mental health concerns.

What to Expect During Treatment

If you decide to pursue PrTMS® therapy as a treatment option, you will be committing to five sessions a week over the course of seven weeks in our Rocklin office. However, each person is different, and we take your unique needs and goals into account to create your treatment plan. Each session usually lasts between 30 to 40 minutes, although your first session may take longer while our skilled team calibrates the PrTMS® device and the intensity of the magnetic pulses to meet your particular care plan.

During your treatment sessions, our team positions the PrTMS® device around your head, then you may feel a tapping sensation on your scalp. Some people initially experience some discomfort or headache, but this often subsides quickly. You will be provided with earplugs for your comfort, as the device creates a repeated clicking sound.

Important Safety Information

The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site. These events are transient, occurring during the TMS treatment course and typically not recurring for most patients after the first week of treatment. There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (<0.1% per patient).

PrTMS® Advanced Therapy should not be used with patients who have non-removable conductive metal in or near the head. PrTMS® Advanced Therapy has not been studied in patients who have not received prior antidepressant treatment.
