Finding effective treatment for mental health conditions, such as major depressive disorder (MDD), anxious depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), can feel overwhelming. If medication and therapy have not provided relief from your symptoms, personalized repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (PrTMS) may be a good option. At Beautiful Minds Medical, our dedicated providers can discuss your goals with you and help you determine whether PrTMS® therapy, which serves Roseville residents, is a good fit for you.
PrTMS therapy delivers precise magnetic pulses to the areas of the brain that regulate mood, behavior, and emotions, which may help many patients in Roseville. These are similar to the magnetic pulses found in an MRI. Inside the brain, these pulses activate cells that release helpful neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.
Since an imbalance of these chemicals could potentially cause MDD or OCD symptoms, PrTMS® therapy often helps to ensure they are at the proper levels. Enhancing brain function in this way can help alleviate symptoms and find relief in day-to-day life.
TMS is backed by research involving more than 188,000 patients and over 6.9 million treatment sessions. According to one study based on a real-world retrospective study using CGI-S and a sample size of 615 patients, 83% of patients who completed their treatment plan reported noticeable improvements in their MDD symptoms (Sackeim HA, et al. [2020]. J Affect Disord, 277.65.74).
If initial treatment attempts in Roseville using psychotherapy and antidepressants have not helped your symptoms, PrTMS® treatment may benefit you. This option can also help patients who have experienced negative systemic side effects from antidepressants.
The best candidates for PrTMS® therapy are those who often find that their MDD or OCD symptoms interfere with their daily life. However, you should not undergo PrTMS® therapy if you have a brain implant, a seizure disorder, or severe mental health conditions such as psychosis. In these instances, our team will work with you to find alternate treatments.
Treatment plans are generally five days a week for seven weeks, but your care plan could be longer depending on your specific needs and symptoms. PrTMS® therapy sessions last for 30 to 40 minutes, and you are able to return to your daily routine in Roseville immediately after.
While PrTMS® therapy is generally not painful, patients may experience a tapping sensation as nerves are stimulated. You may also experience mild to moderate scalp discomfort after your first several treatment sessions, but this typically alleviates after your nerves adjust to the sensation.

Important Safety Information
The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site. These events are transient, occurring during the TMS treatment course and typically not recurring for most patients after the first week of treatment. There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (<0.1% per patient).
PrTMS® Advanced Therapy should not be used with patients who have non-removable conductive metal in or near the head. PrTMS® Advanced Therapy has not been studied in patients who have not received prior antidepressant treatment.
