Living with PTSD involves more than just handling bad memories. It can change the way you sleep, respond to stress, and connect to the people around you. Medication may be an important part of treatment, or you may look for additional options, such as Personalized Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) therapy. If you are comparing PrTMS® vs. medication for patients with PTSD in Roseville, understanding how these treatments are different is an important first step. While both aim to reduce symptoms, they work in different ways and may serve different roles in an overall treatment plan.
Medication works by changing brain chemistry throughout the body, but PrTMS® takes a different approach for patients with PTSD in Roseville. It uses magnetic pulses, similar to those used in MRI technology, to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation without introducing medication into your system.
We tailor this treatment to each person rather than following the same protocol for everyone. Sessions typically last 30 to 40 minutes, and we usually schedule them for five days a week for about seven weeks, although some people may benefit from a longer treatment course. Because the brain needs time to respond to treatment, improvements generally develop gradually. You might begin noticing changes after four to six weeks, rather than immediately.
Medication helps many people manage symptoms of mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, and disrupted sleep. It might become an important part of a broader treatment strategy to address your PTSD symptoms.
At the same time, medication does not produce the same results for everyone. You may continue searching for relief after trying multiple medications or prefer to explore treatment options that do not rely solely on medication. That does not mean that PrTMS® is necessarily the better choice for you, but rather that another evidence-based option may be available, depending on your medical history and individual circumstances.
