NeuroStar transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy is a unique approach to addressing treatment-resistant depression symptoms and improving your quality of life. This treatment is effective and has very few side effects, especially when compared to antidepressant medications.
NeuroStar TMS therapy offers hope to a large population of people who do not respond favorably to antidepressant medications and do not get symptom relief from them. Our experienced team makes effective use of NeuroStar TMS therapy to treat our patients’ depression. Call us today to learn more about why NeuroStar TMS is different from other TMS therapies and how we could use it to improve your quality of life.
NeuroStar TMS is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive, non-drug treatment for people with symptoms of depression who are not satisfied with the results they receive from antidepressant medications. NeuroStar TMS therapy has been proven to be safe and effective for adults and can be used in adolescents with major depressive disorder as an adjunct therapy.
In adults, NeuroStar TMS is the #1 physician-recommended treatment option for treatment-resistant depression with or without comorbid anxiety, which is an important distinction to remember when you are considering TMS therapy. NeuroStar TMS is also an adjunct therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Although other TMS devices use magnetic pulses to stimulate brain activity, NeuroStar TMS is distinguished by its advanced technology, treatment precision, and scientifically proven results. NeuroStar is different from electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which also uses electrical current to change brain activity.
NeuroStar TMS therapy uses magnetic pulses to generate electrical impulses in the brain, while ECT sends small electrical currents while you are under anesthesia to intentionally trigger a seizure. This process is believed to rapidly relieve symptoms, especially with severe depression or schizophrenia. NeuroStar does not use anesthesia, so you are awake during the entire process, and it does not intentionally trigger a seizure. You will be able to leave our office and go about your daily activities immediately after your TMS treatment session.
NeuroStar TMS uses proprietary contact sensing technology to ensure the magnetic coil used during the treatments maintains precise contact with your scalp throughout each session. This is vital to deliver the correct intensity level of magnetic pulses and improves treatment accuracy. Contact sensing technology also ensures the magnetic pulses continue to target the correct brain region throughout your 20-minute treatment session.
NeuroStar TMS was the first TMS device to receive FDA clearance in 2008 for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Studies have shown that 83% of people who receive a full treatment cycle of NeuroStar TMS have a positive response to the treatment and 62% achieve full remission.**
Full remission means that even with an in-depth evaluation by a trained psychiatrist, you would not be diagnosed with any symptoms of depression. This highlights the effectiveness of NeuroStar TMS compared to other TMS options.
NeuroStar TMS treatment is not invasive and does not require anesthesia or sedation, so you stay awake and alert during each session. This allows you to leave our office and resume your daily activities immediately following treatment. Each session lasts roughly 30 minutes.
NeuroStar has a long history of successful treatments, having delivered over 6.9 million treatment sessions. This has contributed to its trusted reputation among health care providers and to increased insurance coverage, making it an accessible option for treatment-resistant depression.
Treatment-resistant depression are challenging and reduce your quality of life, but we want you to know that there is hope. Call our office today to find out more about why NeuroStar TMS is different and how it could provide you with a more accurate and effective TMS therapy to reduce your depression symptoms. We could use this advanced technology to offer you a clear path to recovery.
