PrTMS® vs. Medication for Patients With PTSD in Rocklin

Living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can affect nearly every aspect of your life, from your relationships and sleep to your ability to feel safe and present. While medication can be an important part of treatment for many people, it is not the only option, and many people find relief with Personalized Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®) therapy. If you are exploring alternative treatment options, understanding the differences between PrTMS® vs. medication for patients with PTSD in Rocklin can help you make a more informed decision about your care.

At Beautiful Minds Medical, treatment goes beyond symptom management. Our team takes a wholistic approach that considers the connection between your mind, body, and spirit. Rather than focusing solely on reducing symptoms, we work to identify contributing factors and create a personalized treatment plan based on your unique needs and goals.

How Do PrTMS® and Medication Compare?

Prescription medications for PTSD may help reduce symptoms such as anxiety, hypervigilance, depressed mood, or sleep disturbances. For some individuals, medication provides meaningful relief, while others experience limited improvement or side effects that make continued use challenging.

For our Rocklin patients whose PTSD is not responsive to medication or involves unacceptably high levels of side effects, we offer PrTMS® treatment at our office a couple towns over. This is a noninvasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses, similar to technology used in MRI, to stimulate targeted areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. Unlike medication, PrTMS® does not rely on chemicals circulating throughout the body. Instead, we personalize treatment to your brain’s activity and clinical needs.

We typically schedule treatment five days a week for about seven weeks, although you could require a longer course depending on your progress. Each session generally lasts 30 to 40 minutes.

Could PrTMS® Be Right For You?

If you have tried medication for PTSD without achieving the results you hoped for, or you are looking for a more comprehensive treatment strategy in Rocklin, PrTMS® may be worth discussing with us during a consultation at our nearby office. Every patient is different, so your candidacy depends on several factors, including symptoms, medical history, previous treatments, and overall health.

During your evaluation, our team takes time to understand your experiences and determine whether PrTMS® may fit into your personalized care plan. As with any medical treatment, PrTMS® carries a moderate risk of side effects, and your provider will discuss both the potential benefits and possible risks before treatment begins.

A Wholistic Path Toward Healing

At Beautiful Minds Medical, PrTMS® is only one part of a comprehensive treatment philosophy. Our practice embraces a bio-psycho-social-spiritual model for our Rocklin patients, recognizing that healing after PTSD often involves much more than addressing brain chemistry alone, with PrTMS® or medication.

Our CHOOSE LIFE framework encourages healthy daily habits that support emotional wellness through connection, hydration, optimism, oxygen, self-control, exercise, light, internal clock regulation, food, and your environment. Depending on your individual needs, your treatment plan may also incorporate:

  • Breathing exercises
  • Healthy spirituality
  • Spending time in nature
  • Nutritional interventions
  • Regular physical activity
  • Hydrotherapy such as cold plunges
  • Strengthening meaningful relationships

This personalized, wholistic approach is designed to uncover and address underlying contributors to mental health challenges while supporting lasting lifestyle changes that promote overall well-being.

Adult Indications for Use

PrTMS® Therapy is indicated for the treatment of depressive episodes and for decreasing anxiety symptoms for those who may exhibit comorbid anxiety symptoms in adult patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and who failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from previous antidepressant medication treatment in the current episode.

PrTMS® Therapy is intended to be used as an adjunct for the treatment of adult patients suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Important Safety Information

The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site. These events are transient, occurring during the TMS treatment course and typically not recurring for most patients after the first week of treatment. There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (<0.1% per patient).

PrTMS® Advanced Therapy should not be used with patients who have non-removable conductive metal in or near the head. PrTMS® Advanced Therapy has not been studied in patients who have not received prior antidepressant treatment.
